What if you’re called back after a 3D-mammography?

3D-Mammography is a technique similar to x-ray developed to detect breast cancers in a state where the symptoms are not visible. In this process, multiple x-rays of the breast are combined to get a three-dimensional picture of the breast.
Getting a call back after screening mammography does not guarantee cancer but indicates the presence of something suspicious. Every 1 in 10 women called back for further analysis and are found to have cancer. If a woman has dense breast tissue then
the diagnosis of cancer becomes difficult. Contrary, it is easier to detect cancer in women with low density or fleshy breast.
Possibilities if you’re called back.
  • The suspicious thing may be the dense breast tissues.
  •  It may be a cyst.
  • It may be a tumor that isn't cancer.
  • You need to be re-examined because of some issues.
  • Or if it's cancer.
Questions to be asked to the doctor in case of cancer.
  • Type of cancer I have?
  • Has cancer spread to other organs?
  • What’s the stage of cancer?
  • What’s hormones receptor status?
  • Should I go for genetic testing?
  • About HER2 status and what is it.

Hope, this piece of information helped you in understanding issues associated with dense breast tissues. So, if you are  suspicious about any such breast issue consult your doctor before it gets too late.
